In this comprehensive and hands Two Part Evening Series Workshops, Richard Mandelbaum, herbalist and Co-Founder of NYC’s ArborVitae School of Traditional Herbalism, will teach how to make your own herbal tinctures using alcohol, water and glycerin from both fresh and dried medicinal plants. Topics covered will include when to make a fresh vs. a dried plant tincture, optimal alcohol percentages to use, when to consider alternatives to tincturing and an introductory discussion of phytochemistry as it relates to medicine making and extraction. You’ll learn the step-by-step process of making herbal medicine that is long lasting and effective for both internal use and as botanical actives to incorporate into plant-based skin and body care formulas. Each participant will leave with their own tincture they make themselves!
Throughout both evenings, Richard will weave in his vast experience and knowledge about the rich traditions of herbal medicine making and the medicinal properties of plants. It will be an inspiring evening about how making medicine can deepen our relationship to plants and awaken our innate powers of healing and resiliency.
Part I: On Tuesday, January 14th, Richard will teach the basics of making a high quality tincture with alcohol menstruum and dried herbs. Everyone will have hands on experience making a tincture themselves.
